Oooh, saw these play in Manchester the other day and it was FANTASTIC. I'm so excited to see them at Green Man now. Such and amazing and lush sound. Stunning.

Did you enjoy the support Bon Iver, I wanted to go just to see him - he is on Jools Holland tonight. Love to see him at GreenMan

i know i always seem to be the voice of doom and gloom...
but iron and wine were terrible in london on friday night
one of my favourite bands
but what was with the eight people on stage?
two percussionists is always a pretty bad sign
we stood it for six or seven songs and then had to leave
bon iver were marvellous though
off to see them again tonight
but i'll be skipping I&W at green man
which i never thought i'd say
hey ho
cheers

Oh no! I wish you hadn't said that. :(
I was really looking forward to seeing him, as he hasn't played anywhere near me recently.

Wow, I can't believe you didn't enjoy the show! We were totally blown away. I thought the layers and depth of the sound was truly mind-blowing and seeing the whole band on stage creating that sort of sound live was amazing. As for Bon Iver, well he ditched us to perform on Jools so he's slightly in my bad books at the moment!

i don't know...
have you seen them live before?
with just sam and his sister and the guy playing bass and other bits?
the songs are so delicate and fragile
the fact that they hang together by the skin of their teeth is what made them so great for me
i loved the collaboration with calexico
there i though the extra instrumentation worked
it picked out certain phrases and augmented key passages
rather than just filling every last gap with musical polyfiller
which is how it felt to us at the forum last week
like the songs were lost under the weight of the music
the spaces between the notes are as important as the notes themselves
but hey, it's all subjective!
everyone up there was a consummate musician
it just seemed a bit like some of them were session musicians
we felt like it lacked soul
but everyone should make up their own minds in wales in august!
oh and bon iver were even better at the social last night
even if you couldn't get a fag paper between each punter
nice moment at the end when they came and sat in the middle of the audience to play 'skinny love' without any electricity
for a nerdy kid with a patchy beard, that boy's a star
okey doke
cheers

I certainly love the more delicate sound of the earlier albums but I read a review somewhere that described the 'Shepherd's Dog' album as Sam's 'Swordfishtrombones' and suddenly, the full instrumental sound all made sense.
I haven't witnessed him play these songs live yet but I saw him playing with Calexico and it just blew me away - can't wait to see him at GM!
