Camping: a designated quiet area?

I had a great time at the Greenman...excellent music, thanks. The river was beautiful too!
My only gripe, like others on the other thread, was the inconsiderate noise created by some in the camp site right through the night. I guess many people had to face a long drive home, with serious sleep deprivation. The implications are obvious.
How about an area in the camp site for those who fancy a good night's kip without disturbing anyone else?

I agree, this was my first festival and I was very impressed. I was with my husband and 4yr old daughter and we were in the family camping area, around us were other families, and within 1/2 hr of arriving my daughter had found herself 3 friends, they played together all Thursday and Friday, by Saturday the play area had been taken over by other tents. As when we arrived back at our tent on Friday night about 11pm we found we were surrounded by 4 small tents. Next morning it was obvious these weren't families, whilst they seemed ok, they had no obvious respect that there was kids all around them. Their language was not suitable around children, they left a hot bbq lying around, with unused food and once they came back to their tents around 4am they re-lived their whole night. I am pleased to say once the children woke around 7.30 we did feel like justice had been done. Whilst the idea of a family camping area is a good one, (one of the reasons I agreed to take my daughter in the first place) it does needs to be better controlled by the organisers. Still a great festival

I guess it'd be hard to enforce a 'quiet area'. I think it just says a great deal about mutual respect for others. The fact that 2 youths recently shoved a lady onto a railway track when she told them not to smoke says a great deal about how some people think only THEY matter and no one has the right to expect manners and decent behaviour. From my own point of view though, I have to say on Thurs & Fri nights I was forced to wander around in the wee small hours (due to members of our group not arriving til 3am!) and I certainly heard not a cheep around the 'Slurp & Burp' area all the way up to the box office area in the 2-3 hours that I wandered up and down.

I like this idea.
At Trowbridge festival, there are places where you can camp *really* away from the main site and you can't hear anything. That's a lot to do with the hills and valleys. Green Man is pretty flat, isn't it?
Still, I would welcome a quiet/family area which really does what it says on the tin...

Yes please can we have a designated quiet camping area. I was in general camping and had noisy neighbours which meant I did not sleep well. Ironically I thought Green Man would be better than other fstivals in this respect but it was in fact worse. People seemed to think it was OK to stay up all night chatting and playing music in their tents. The benefits of a quiet area are that those who want to get a good night's sleep can congregate together and if anyone is being noisy it does at least seem reasonable to point out to them that they are in a quiet area.

I was in a quiet area too and was not disturbed at all by other campers. The only downside re noise to me was the Rumpus Room going on until 4am - apparently with nobody in it! Maybe because it was on a hill, I dunno, but the sound seemed to travel to our campsite which, despite our young lively neighbours, was very quiet and respectful during the night.

We arrived around Thursday lunchtime and pitched close to where we had before. A couple of stewards came and told us it was the family area, as we had no kids with us. This was what we wanted as we were being joined by a couple of families. But had we not been told, we wouldn't have known. And we didn't see any other stewards doing this outside the first couple of hours. I think the areas could do with being much more clearly signposted.
