the long slog to the cars

It was my first festival this year, and I understand last year the access between the camping, festival and cars was MUCH easier to negotiate. This year it sucked, frankly. I felt quite angry at making us walk so long between the cars and camping, and then to have to hike all the way back into the campground to enter the festival. Really frustrating. Was there a reason for this (other than perhaps wanting to keep people around and from driving into town??) I don't mean to be negative but it didn't feel very kind.

We were really annoyed that the late arrivers and the overflow carpark was much closer than us to our camping spot. We reckoned that we were a mile and a half away. We are not youngsters and found this such a strain. Why don't the organisers put the folks who have paid full whack nearer? I agree it seemed unfair.

Its a walk, so what? I hated seeing people drive down onto the campsite and try and be lazy. It served them right to get charged a tenna to get pulled out. Walking whilst carrying gear is exercise, something that most people these days seem to be afraid of.
The only people I felt sorry for where the live-ins who also got charged a tenna to get pulled out. They did not deserve to get fleeced in my opinion.

I for one would much rather have a longer walk from tent to festival and be able to park next to or near my tent. This "carry your gear half a mile to the camp site" idea sucks. Just 'cos Gastonbury does it, doesn't make it right.

Yeah but wot if your car is your tent! VW campers and towed caravans are or need a vehicle. I suppose small caravans could be unhitched at the top and you could help push 'em on site - now theres a work out!

I think this is not at all about being lazy.... I am generally open to physical challenge and so forth, but the very, VERY long hike from tent to car felt just plain mean! And walking by the lots that were for late comers or not used was only fuel to the fire. In other words, it was not conducive to a very nice "vibe". My friend thinks it was designed so we would not be able to get out and drive into nearby towns so easily, as he had done last year - spend more at the festival? I am not inclined to take this conspiratorial view, but I would like to let organisers know it really sucked! And no it's not about being lazy!

It did make it diffifuclt to carry stoves and the full Monty. So, very tailored to eating in the arena. Which is simply too expensive for me. This is why I will be thinking twice about buying a ticket again. And the closer parking for late comers was really very upsetting. Although, it was a double edged sword, since, as it did become very muddy, many of those cars were quite stuck.

Guys. i appreciate your arguements (especially those who are perhaps a little older). Ok it was a fairly long walk, but did any of you notice the sensible people who carried their stuff in trolleys????? Unfortunately I wan't one of them. I had to do 3 journeys there and back (god knows why I brought so much stuff) but on the way back up we took the time to appreciate the beautiful surroundings - can't be all bad can it?

All of the people who had their cars on the site did so because they were diabled in some way - NOT because they were lazy. I had recently had several hand operations and was unable to carry anything as advised by the consultant. I dont think its a very nice thing to say that people are lazy when they have a genuine reason for having the car on site! I agree the long treck is very bad and I do think that the organisers need to do something about that but blaming and laughing at people who needed their vehicles (which subsequently got stuck) for whatever reason is simply mean spirited.
