Folkey Dokey stage: why so far?

Hello all. It's easy to praise the Green Man, as it is the best festival I've ever been to. So I did have a great time, with some amazing gigs, like Black Mountain, Alela Diane, Pentangle, Cate Le Bon and Wolf People. Thanks GM once more for a great, wicked, although wet and muddy, weekend.
BUT: I would really like to know why, WHY did they put the Folkey Dokey stage so far away from the Main Stage? Last year, in five minutes you could go from one stage to the other, so it would have been possible to catch both Caribou and Pentangle, for example. But, especially with the mud, which was worse than last year, walking up to the FD stage became a huge hassle!! And, there was NO bar by the Folkey Dokey stage! You had to walk in the mud and the rain up to the camp fire to get a drink... I DO hope they change that for next year, it was a very unwise decision as far as I'm concerned. The 2007 arrangement was much, much better.
Love to all, Rogerio

They moved the Foley Dolkey to avoid soundclashes with the main stage, but I agree it was more of a trek in the mud. The layout was far from ideal, there should always be the core layout of stage, bar and toilets, the food stalls felt a bit more fractured this year too, I trust the organisers will be reading these forums with interest and taking all comments into consideration for next year.

Thanks Webbins. I thought the reason must have been sound clashes, but I must say that I can't remember a single day last year when that was a major issue. The bit where the FD stage was last year was great, with a bar and the CD shop right in front of it. And I don-t remember any gig being ruined by sounds coming from the other stage...

I have to say that I very much preferred the folky dolky stage in this position (a return to it's position in o6). I think it makes much better use of the site. On a pleasant day (and admittedly i think there were more of these in 06) you can take a leisurely ramble between stages via the greenman cafe or the gardens and generally see lots more in between. My memories of trekking between the two last year were that it was just as treacherous for mud and you had to queue for ages to get over the steps between fields...

Fair point Nilsatis. I was not there in 06, and I assume it must have been great to enjoy that bit of the site in sunny days and warm nights. But, still, it's a long walk if you want to jugle clashes of gigs you want to see. And they could still have put a bar in front of the FD stage this year...
But my point is that, if GM will always, or at least very frequently, be a wet and muddy festival, then they should come up with a way of making us walk less, not more...

I assumed it had been moved to reduce the mudbath between Main and FD stage as the amount of footfall last year between the two left it in a state.

That was my assumption, but I have to say that the area in question was pretty much just as muddy this year.

Yes, I thought the mud was the reason as well - I can't remember much sound cross over. Last year the mud was much worse for the stalls round the folky dokey.
This year we pretty much had to give up on the folkey dokey after the mud came, as we had two kids they just couldn't walk that far in the mud. Last year the mud was a bit worse, but it was easy to carry them that small distance.
The year before that I didn't have any kids with me, it didn't rain, and I really enjoyed the walk between the Folkey Dokey and the main stage.
I think, on balance though, I'd prefer the Folkey Dokey back in the 2007 position, and perhaps put the campfile where the Folkey Dolkey was, so songs round the campfire would be a viable option again.
