As a counterpoint to my criticism elsewhere I wanted to again say a MASSIVE thank you to the organisers because all of the things they did right helped make me and my party of 22 have such a great time that, today, we have all confirmed we will be returning next year and dates are already PENNED into the diaries and iPhones :-)

Agreed, it was a great festival, I think the organisers did a great job and a lot of thought was obviously put into it.
I just wish the bloody Great British summer would sort itself out! FFS!

I agree with some of the other comments made elsewhere about this years event (poor line-up, little done to prepare for the inevitable weather, ridiculously over-priced beer). I have been to the last five GMs and think I have witnessed it becoming a victim of it's own success (and dare I suggest, the greed of the organisers?). So my enthusiasm for the groovy, friendly, low-key and top class little festival that I was so pleased to discover in 2004 has waned over the years and I don't think I'll be going again...

Just in case some of my other comments sound a little negative, yes, another great festival, thanks Jo and Danny! Looking forward to the next one already.

I posted this on the facebook GM site, but as a potential regular (since 2006), I thought I would pop it up here, just in case anyone pays attention?
'Fantastic that Folkey Dokey is back to it's original place - the acoustics are so much better, so it's worth the trek. Great that the Rumpus Room is so close to the bonfire (though awful set on Saturday night - like going to the local pub disco, and less than inspirational for those of us who wanted a proper boogie!!!)... highlights for me were F**k Buttons, The Cave Singers, Junior Boys, Nina Nastasia, Archie Bronson Outfit, The Owl Service, SFA... you know, there were actually a lot more - but it merges into one after a few ciders, and we missed a few that we would have liked to have seen because of the need for tent warmth!
Only thing that worried me a little was the rapid expansion of ticket sales, yet little more provision of food stalls, showers, toilets etc.. and a distinct feeling that some of the crowd really didn't care for the music (just the beer) which is a big change for those of us who have been coming for a few years now, and who are used to 'geeking' out a little.
I am, as you can well see, far too precious.
Anyway, I hope everyone else had good fun - and is recovering well, after a long bath...'
I guess that sums it up for me - I would hate to see further expansion next year, as I do believe that it would be the last time that I (and numerous other friends) would come... it felt far less personal this year, and as a group we encountered a few bad attitudes, and some serious fashionista frowns (what's wrong with wearing a kaftan for fun, guys?!).
As far as I am aware, it didn't sell out - so organisers, drop your sales by about 2000, and you could get it back to phenomenal again. Had the feeling that some people came as a result of other festivals extortionate ticket prices, and rapid sell out... and they just wanted a festival 'experience'. Now, I am by no means saying that I didn't get absolutely trollied on cider and dancing... but I do have a great respect for the music, the families that attend - the people who work there, and the artists that play. Spent a lot of time fighting my way to the front, to avoid the drunken banter over amazing artist's sets - far more than in previos years.
Also, direct people through the green field if they wish to avoid GM cafe, and the therapists may well get the business and recognition that they deserve - working long days, with smiles and help for all!
That's all folks - my electricity has just gone off, so it's back to camp style living...

I was interested to see that 'Day Tickets' were on sale at the box office. Had I known about this in advance then I would have advised a few people who were reluctant/unable to attend for the whole weekend, just to come for the day.
