to cook or not to cook!
Aug 04, 2008, 12:21
Hi, its my first time at the Green Man, in fact its my first time at a festival. I am really excited about it but was wondering what to do about food while I am there. I heard it is really expensive to eat there and wondered whether to buy a little camping cooker? what do most people suggest?
is there quite a variety of different food stalls?
any advice / tips would be much appreciated.

thanks, Claire

Like all festivals the food isn't cheap (though it is mostly very good) so a camping stove is a pretty good idea especially if you have kids with you - feed them up on plenty of pasta!

Last year we went and we took a load of food up with us, like sandwiches and stuff. This lasted until Friday evening and then we started using the foodstalls. The food there is great - really good stuff, but you have to hunt around if you want bargains. I really liked the curry place - you got a good deal on a Thali, with lots of food for about a fiver. Some are more expensive...it works in your favour to check around. The weather might play a factor too - would you want to be out cooking if its chucking it down with rain?

You'll pick up one of the single ring 'suitcase' stoves for under a tenner and a couple of gas cannisters at around a quid each. It'll pay for itself a few times over. You won't want to be wandering down to the festival site and queueing every time you want a cuppa.

If you cook a good breakfast at your tent, it'll keep you going into the afternoon and you can enjoy the food stalls in the evening.

You forgot to mention our recipe ideas at the other GM site peri.

From the FAQs:

The festival site opens for camping at 10am on Thursday 14 August. Food stalls and a bar will be open in the evening.

I recall tucking into the first of the weekend's Pieminister pies on the Thursday last year..
