Hello Everyone - What the green man did for me and why I'm going again

Hi Everybody, my name's john and I was at the Green man for the first time, last year.
2007 was a devestang year for me. It began on new years day with a devestating discovery about my girlfriend /partner of 6 years, who I was living with. This led to an imminent break up and set off a chain reaction that lost me my flat, my lust for life and began many months signed off work with depression. A friend of mine, who I didn't know very well actually, said she was going to the Green Man and I was curious - I had never camped at a festival and I hadn't heard of Green Man nor any of it's line up, apart from Robert Plant of course.
I decided to go along and you could not concieve how glad I am that I did.
The green man experience was a well needed escape from my life back in Southampton. I was essentially alone for most of the weekend, rarely seeing the girl I was camping beside, but I didn't FEEL alone, because I met so many wonderful people, saw so many fantastic live acts, discovered that there was this alternative festival where there were no logos or troublemakers. It was heavenly - I didn't want to leave. In fact, I was really sad to go on that Monday morning. I swore that I would return and today, I've bought my ticket.
When I got back home after the weekend I started sorting out my life, I left the job i'd been in for 5 years (and loathed) and moved to Fleet in Hampshire, started a new job and I have a wonderful time here. I am starting again and getting on with my life, all thanks to that wonderful weekend, many months ago.
Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself to everyone here and get to know some of you before the event. Chances are, if you were there last year, you may have even met me already.
Here's a photo of me at the Green Man Last year - See if you recognise me. My hair has grown back since...

Fleet1985 very honest post and glad its working out for you .
I went to Green Man two years ago last minute ticket on ebay & 8 months after a breakup with my heart still broken. I spent a lot of time at Green Man by myself , loved talking to strangers including a guy who made me laugh for the first time in a very long time . We stayed in touch and went back to Green Man as a couple last year . Its such a fantastic place and atmosphere

Really like this thread.
There really is something special about this festival.
The first time I went was in 2005 at Barkerville Hall and I had a great time. But I really got into it at the 2006 event. It was like a completely new event. Had all the good things of the previous one but so much more.
Glanusk is an incredible site and I still remember the goose bumps I felt when I walked back from the Cafe to the main stage and seeing the view.
I have left the last 2 festivals feeling regenerated and inspired. It has become a bit of a fix for me.

Totally agree. It's a bit of a cliche but my first Greenman in 2006 was truly a life changing event.
It was just being in a place with so many lovely people that changed my outlook on life and gave me a "Greenman glow" that I took out into the world. I'd only been to Glastonbury before and loved the Glastonbury experience but it was always tinged with a certain edginess or just plain nastiness from a minority of festival goers.
There was none of that at Greenman and every person i spoke to was just ... well lovely.
I'm still really good friends with people I met in 2006 and that meeting lovely people thing has become a domino effect. You meet lovely people who are friends with lovely people and they become your friends and it continues!
Thanks Greenman

I remember bits of last years Green Man, can't say it changed my life, but it was a little part of my life that 'fitted' better than the rest of it!
I'm glad that it brought you out of the doldrums, look forward to seeing you around this year John! (Grow yerself a beard la'!)
I intend to meet up with Rayrad where we can have a full bearded moan about life, the universe and everything, see if we cannae depress each other into an early grave!
