Tell me all about the festival
Jul 03, 2008, 12:16
My partner and I are coming to the festival for the first time this year, although we are seasoned Glastonbury goers. We're both looking forward to a more low key event, but I have no idea what to expect! So tell me all about it, the good bits, the bad bits, the vibe, the site, everything!

Thanks!

Good bits - really friendly, particularly child-friendly, camping close to site and car parks, eclectic mix of music (it ain't a folk festival for sure!), beautiful, beautiful site - waking up at the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain is special, even when it's pissing down (see below). Totally not corporate - no adverts for mobile phones or for anything else for that matter. Non-elitist - you're likely to see the bands wandering around the site.

Bad things - none really - the food outlets are pricey and the queues (especialy for the famous Pieminister) lengthy - pretty much like any other festival I guess. The 'general stores' has outrageous rip-off prices and should be avoided at all costs! If it rains it will get pretty muddy especially outside the Folkey Dokey tent but if you're used to Glastonbury then presumably you'll take it in your stride.

Spend from now until August checking out artists' myspace pages - just listening to Pete Greenwood as I write this - never heard of him before but sounds really good!

Oh, you do know that beards (and small children in tow) are compulsory. Start growing yours now (beards that is).

I think they call the music "folk-tronica".

If this is your first festival - I think you have chosen perfectly. Please do not pull out - look out for me when we get there and I'll see how much you two are enjoying it.
