Hi i'm new :)
first Green Man this year - cannot wait!! I'm coming on my own though, will I regret that decision and spend my time wandering about like a loser? should i force a mate along with me?
also, how safe are instruments to b brought along? thanks :)

I just logged in to ask almost exactly the same thing! I decided a while ago that I was so mad at myself for missing the last 2 years (wow, just look at those line-ups!) that I'd definitely go this year. I'm still really keen to go, but every time I persuade somebody else to go they change their mind a few days later.
I'd better get a ticket soon, and I'll keep trying to drag a few others with me, but before I get a ticket I was just wondering how I can expect to get on if I do end up on my own! Is the place buzzing with people like me or will I find myself feeling a bit of a loner for the weekend? Can I expect to meet friends-for-life?
I suppose that given there'll be thousands of people passionate about similar music to me I'll not go that wrong, but I'm uneasy about feeling a bit left out.
Sorry if this is a stupid suggestion, but if there are lots of us, how about a "lone attendees meeting area" (or do this virtually over Facebook/MySpace in advance?)

Also my first time and coming all alone all the way from Belgium
afterwards I'm gonna do some backpacking on my own for about 2 months
always up to meet some people at the festival or afterwards on my trip (will be packpacking through Wales, probably after the festival first towards Brecon beacons, then Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and then up north probably following the coast)
will have a tent with me for 2 persons, so if anyone is looking for a place to sleep during the festival, let me know : ursaminorx@hotmail.com

I went with people last year but ended up on my own and had an amazing time :) enough so that I've just booked my ticket even though I'm not sure how I'll get in touch with the only people I know that might be going...

I am also thinking of coming by myself, but I haven't done it before, bit nervous. I can never find people to come with me, but the lineup is just too good to miss this year! Can anyone reassure me that I'd have a good time by myself? What do other solo campers do in the evening; I know from other festivals that its easy to amuse yourself during the day, but that its nice to have company in the evenings.
I was hoping there might be other people in the same situation as me, could arrange to meet up. Facebook group sounds like a good idea to me.

It's definitely a friendly sort of festival, with a great atmosphere. You'll also see a lot of families there with kids. It's a good place to make friends, plenty of opportunities to strike up conversations with the people around you.
There are lockups for instruments, and it's a good idea to keep your instrumetns secure wherever you are, obviously. Last year, me and a mate went halves on a very cheap second hand guitar so that if it did get broken or something, it wouldn't matter too much. But the CND lockups are a good safe place to keep anything valuable.

I came on my own the first year I came, and I had a whale of a time. Made friends and all that, but at the same time I just got to do what I wanted to do. Saw EVERY band I wanted to see. It was great. I recommend it.

Hi guys! ive been the last 2 years running it is a really friendly fest. loved it soo much that i to am going on my on this year. If any one want's to start a 'billie no mates gang' id be up for it? but im sure you'll get talking to people anyway

Hi all
I went to GM 2 years ago and had a wonderful time. I'm going on my own this year - feel OK about it because, though I went with friends last time, I met some great people there. I'm still in touch with a couple of them and have been to other festivals. Unfortunately they've chosen Latitude over GM this year and my mates have other plans!
While I'm happy to go on my own, I'd be up for some kind of reasonably informal "Billy No Mates" meeting arrangement!

Regarding the line up - one lesser known band I'd recommend is Wolf People. I saw them in Cardiff in April and they were excellent.
Also, 2 years ago the DJ tent was absolutely superb!
