Has anyone brought their Kids to GreenMan before?
May 01, 2008, 21:21
We are thinking of bringing our 3 kids + friend (4,5,10). Would like to hear about your experiences of the festival for families. Is the family camping area quiet? Is there much for the children to do apart from the music?

Thanks in advance

Yes we took our daughter last year and she thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so she's excited about going again this year. There is a separate area for family camping so noise is of a minimum (except for the occasional baby crys!)

Hi. We wnet for the first time last year with our two kids (daughter then aged just under 4 and son then 18 months). They had a fab time - my daughter is dying to go back this year (we are) and every time I wear my GM t-shirt my son hollers out 'Green Man!'. Before going we were worried about putting up the tent while keeping an eye on the both of them - we needn't have worried, within seconds our two had found someone to play with and were off in another tent! The family area is great - not too far to lug all your stuff and everyone is dead friendly. Highlights for out two were playing in the mud (not again this year please!) and staying up to see Gruff Rhys (who my daughter idolises!) To be honest, you almost have to have children to go to Green Man!

Just read your bit about stuff for kids to do - loads. Apart from the Children's tent which has loads of activities going on (arts, crafts, music etc), rolling down the big hill in front of the main stage is a big hit as is the bubble stall.

Thanks folks, pleased about the family camping area being quiet, we were a bit worried about 'Pentangle' waking the kids up at 2am, ok so they are not quite Metallica, but you know what I mean.

Better get tickets booked :-)

My two slept through Robert Plant and Stephen Malkmus last year - haven't told my daughter that Gruff and the Super Furries will be on a bit too late for her this year.

I once slept through most of Bob Dylan and I was 19 :-)

The children really added to athe atmosphere last year, especially with all the bubbles floating across the mainstage area.

hey, I thought this was a family friendly festival ! Fuck Buttons are playing. How the heck am I supposed to explain that to my impressionable ones. "Daddy, which band are on next"? cough, splutter "I think we'd better head off tho the children's area darling" ;-0

When my older ones were small & they came to football matches with me, I used to tell them that they were special "football" words which were secret & you only heard them at matches. You mustn't tell them to mummy or teachers or you wouldn't be able to go to the football any more. Could try something similar with Fuck Buttons?
