Green Man on Tour - Pete Greenwood & Mary Hampton

05/11/08

The Green Man on Tour returns with a double header from Pete Greenwood and Mary Hampton. Word Magazine described Pete as having 'the same restful, bucolic poise as this realm's high priest Nick Drake', while Uncut described Mary's music as 'coffee-table-shattering purity...these are songs of unnerving delicacy, elemental and acoustic simplicity...potent and enchanting.'

Pete Greenwood Reviews:
'Ensnares you from the word go' - Sunday Times
'Sounds like a lost 1970's classic' - Independent on Sunday

Mary Hampton Reviews:
'If Joanna Newsom's spiders-in-the-hair folk floats your tankard, then Brighton's Mary Hampton is the new brew. Spectral and spartan she mixes poetry and classical influences into plinking, piano-led folk ballads...giving her debut an exotic, gothic drama'- Q

Vashti Bunyan - London Film Festival

21/10/08

Vashti Bunyan - From Here To Before

If you’re around for the London Film Festival this weekend, check out the remarkable film ‘Vashti Bunyan – From Here To Before’ “a gorgeously shot, achingly intimate portrait”(Time Out). Directed by our good friend Kieran Evans (who supplied the visuals for the Rumpus Room at Green Man 08) the film re-traces Vashti’s legendary journey to the Hebrides in a horse-drawn caravan, and sees her returning to live performances over 30 years later.
“I loved playing at the Green Man in 2007 and stayed the whole weekend. It shines brightly in my memory as I fondly remember the beautiful green Welsh hills and generous and spirited atmosphere. (One of my best memories is of a kid offering to roll down a steep hill for a quid a time. I hope he made a fortune.) Thank you to everyone involved with the Green Man for putting together a festival that makes you feel that people are genuinely there for the love of music.”

13/09/08

(extract from) The Guardian Friday 12th September
'The Black Cab Sessions - a terrific online series that features musicians performing a song in the back of a London taxi - charted new territory by posting five performances filmed on a trip out of London to the Green Man festival. Join Damien Jurado, James Yorkston, King Creosote, Mumford and Sons and Badly Drawn Boy for a drive around the stunning Welsh countryside while they deliver five very lovely performances. Wonderful stuff.' See Chapters 54-58 on the Black Cab Sessions below:
