FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Alcohol
You may bring a personal supply of alcohol with you into the campsites (decanted into plastic bottles, please), but you will not be able to bring it into the entertainment areas where there are licensed bars. You may be searched and be asked to return the alcohol to your tent.
Camping
There are separate areas for General Camping, Family Camping and Disabled Camping.
If you would like to hire a tent, tipi or caravan please contact Tangerine Fields to arrange this here
People with disabilities interested in using the disabled facilities at the festival should contact info@thegreenmanfestival.co.uk
There will be many toilets which will be cleaned at regular intervals, as well as hot shower facilities.
Please do not leave valuables in your tent or car. Either keep your possessions with you, or use the campsite lock-ups run by volunteers from CND. There will be a small charge to use these facilities: all profits go to CND. You can also recharge your mobile phone at the lock-ups for a small fee.
Because of the fire risk, no open fires or tinfoil barbeques are allowed on site. However, you may use camping stoves or barbeques on legs.
No glass bottles are allowed on any part of the festival site, including the camping areas. You may bring a personal supply of alcohol with you into the campsites (decanted into plastic bottles, please), but you will not be able to bring it into the entertainment areas where there are licensed bars.
No sound systems or amplified music are allowed on site. People who disregard this regulation will have their equipment confiscated. This is so we can ensure that the festival does not exceed the permitted sound limits set out in our license.
Campsite closure
Please note that the campsite closes and must be empty by 12:00 midday on Monday 24 August.
Car Sharing
Last year the percentage of vehicles used per person attending was less 20% less than most open air events this is because many people car share when attending. It's a great way to meet new people, cut the cost of transport and most importantly positively effect the carbon footprint of attending. The best way to do this is through the forum on this website. Tell people what area/city or town you are coming from and your day of arrival and leaving and what spaces you have in your vehicle or need from someone else's. Let's see if we can reduce the numbers further this year.
Children
The Green Man is a very child friendly event and many people bring their children each year.
Children 12 and under are not charged to attend but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Teenage tickets are available for 13-17 year olds and are available from Ticketline
Anyone under 18 years of age is not able to buy a ticket or attend the festival themselves. Up to 4 children or teenagers can accompany 1 adult when attending.
A designated family camping area is located near to the entertainment. A childrens area has got a number of different entertainments and workshops. We do not have creche facilities at the festival. A fuller list of children's entertainment and workshops will be announced closer to the festival.
The toilets are of the plastic variety but are very clean and showers are also available. Taps for washing hands, faces and teeth are located nearby.
We advise you to write your mobile number on the arm band of your children so that we can contact you if they become lost.
Drugs
Guests may be searched on entry to the event. If you are in possession of illegal substances you may be arrested.
Glanusk Park
Glanusk Park has been aptly described as "the best event site in the country," by the Times.
Situated in the Brecon Beacons it is surrounded by lovely countryside and inspiring mountains.
The camping area of Green Man is situated in parkland which is grazed by sheep for the other eleven months of the year. The river Usk surrounds the site and children often comment on the bubbles coming to the surface from the fish swimming just under the surface.
Ancient trees are dotted around the park to offer both shade and wonder to those who attend.
We hope that we use this wonderful space sensitively and try and utilise the different areas so that those that you feel that you are entering different worlds offering different experiences and entertainments within intimate and lovely surroungings.
The park is used as the camping area offering an opportunity to camp in the kind of surroundings unlikely to be found in a commercial camp site and only offered one weekend a year. Waking up to the low level mist coming from the river, and the fresh smell in the air is an incredible and wonderful experience.
The gardens are used for the Green Area where different installations, stalls and entertainments are positioned between rose arbour's and flower beds.
The pond at the bottom of the garden is surrounded by arts installations and glitter in the night. The frogs living in it seem as delighted at seeing the children peering into the pond as the children are seeing them but we acknowledge that paddling in their home is inpolite and probably frightening to them so we respectively leave well alone.
The natural amphitheatre enable us to sit on the lush grassy slopes while watching the artists on the Main Stage which is located so that the Brecon Beacon's and inspiring Sugar Loaf Mountain can be seen behind the stage. It is breath catchingly magical.
The Gothic Victorian Stables are used as a half way point where the Courtyard Bar is situated.
From the Stables you can follow the avenue of ancient trees decorated with lights where stalls sell diverse and quality goods.
At the end of the avenue you can enter the walled garden where the Green Man Cafe is this year. The Cafe stage is an intimate space and many people drink ales, beer,
cider and cocktails while seated on the tables and chairs in this area
while listening to many of the performers on the stage.
Further down the avenue the walled garden and avenue of trees opens up to encompass the Science and Literature tents.
Across from this area the event open ups even further to the bonfire area. As well as beign the site of the Folkey Dokey and Rumpus Room, a fire is lit each night from 11pm to 7am. Those of us who wish to play longer end up in this area experiencing one of the best things about Green Man which is completely unscheduled jamming sessions which take place around the fire.
The End Up Bar which runs through the night fuels the experience. But sitting around the fire with friends listening to sometimes odd and other times amazing music performed by known and sometimes unknown artists we hope will create the kind of experiences that will remain with you long after Green Man is over.
Hog Weed
This plant is located near the river and looks like large cow parsley. Please do not go near it as it can cause skin irritation.
Independent Festival
Yes Green Man is an "Independent Festival".
Live in Vehicles Information
Green Man has a designated camping area for live in vehicles.
Tickets for live in vehicles are not sold at the entrance to Green Man and need to be bought in advance.
A live in vehicle is one which is specifically adapted for sleeping such as camper vans, winnibago's, or caravans.
No cars or live in vehicles are allowed in the other camping areas.
If you have bought a live in vehicle pass and would like your friends to camp near you, you can have up to 2 x 2 person tents or 1 x 4 person tent pitched nearby.
A live in vehicle pass is £45.00 plus a booking and can be bought via this website.
The area for live in vehicle camping is used as farmland for the rest of the year so it dosn't have power or septic tanks.
The area is lit with garland lights and showers and toilets are nearby. Also the taps in the area provide drinking water.
By running the camping areas in this way we comply with the event licence, and other health and safety regulations.

Property Lock-Ups
The Safe and Sound Property Lock-up is brought to you by volunteers from Greater Manchester Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
We’re open 24 hours till noon on Monday and we're located in the big white marquee near the showers in North General Camping.
The lock-ups are an important fundraiser for us so we ask for a suggested donation of £5, for that you can take your stuff in and out as many times as you like over the weekend. We also charge phones for the bargain price of £3.
Stuff we store: bikes, instruments, wallets, keys, mp3 players - pretty much anything inanimate.
Stuff we don't store: pets, kids, bombs, guns or other animate or angsty things.
But we’re not just here to raise money; we’d also like you to get a flavour of what we do:
Now 50 years old and currently celebrating the removal of the last US nuclear weapons from the UK earlier this year, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is now a partner in a new global effort to abolish nuclear weapons for good.
Launched in 2007, ICAN is a new campaign initiated by the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War - a federation of medical professionals in 60 countries. They have joined with mayors, civil society groups, non-government organisations, churches and citizens to demand an end to nuclear weapons through a Nuclear Weapon Convention, which will make nuclear weapons illegal, banning their development, possession, transport, use and threat of use. Similar international conventions have successfully banned land mines, cluster bombs and chemical and biological weapons.
ICAN focuses on the roots of the nuclear weapons problem - the continued possession of nuclear weapons by a small minority of countries who risk their use by design, accident, miscalculation or by terrorists, and whose weapons are an incentive to others to also become nuclear armed.
You can get more information on ICAN and our other campaigning areas at the lock-up.

Recycling
Please help us keep the Green Man Festival tidy – Glanusk Park Estate is a beautiful location and we want to treat the land with respect!
Glass: absolutely no glass whatsoever is allowed on the entire festival site – this includes the camping areas. Upon arrival, please decant any wine or spirits into plastic bottles before you proceed to the camping areas.
We have recycling bins available in the campsites and throughout the festival site for recycling plastic, card and tin. Please help us keep the festival looking beautiful. In the campsite, you will find special recycling areas where you can pick up green bags for recycling, and black bags for general rubbish. We have a large team of recyclers who will be on hand to sort through the rubbish, but we rely on your help to make their job manageable.
Smoking
The smoking in public places ban came into effect on July 1st 2007. The Green Man and other festivals are not immune to the law. However, most of the festival is outside and the only places you will be forbidden from smoking are inside the entertainment marquees. Areas where you cannot smoke will have ‘no smoking’ signs - please adhere to them.

So this year we are introducing car park tickets for cars which have 1 or 2 passengers, (if there are more of you, you park free). Tickets cost £5 each (more on the door) and we are reinvesting the money into providing free shuttle busses from Abergavenny Station.
We have also teamed up with The Big Green Coach who are offering coaches to the festival from around the country. This is a great way to travel to the festival, as well as not having the hassle or the ecological impact of driving, with 48 other really excited people, the festival atmosphere starts the moment you get onboard.
The camper’s dream that is Tangerine Fields is back again for Green Man 2010. So leave your camping gear at home and start the party early. Book a ready-pitched and fully equipped tent. Choose from 2, 4 and 6 man tents and all the kit you need to camp – from sleeping bags to stoves. Visit Tangerine Fields for more information and bookings.
